What is an Australian School Based Apprenticeship (ASBA)?
The Australian Based Apprenticeship (ASBA) program is an exciting initiative aimed at both employers and secondary school students. It relies on employers giving students from Year 10-12 the opportunity to gain a vocational qualification, participate in part-time work and receive Nationally Recognised and Accredited Certificate training and on-the-job experience.
Australian School Based Apprenticeships can be divided into two groups:
Students complete the majority of their on-the-job training during school hours i.e. they are released from school for 1 full day or 2 half days and the ASBA is integrated into the student's school program. Students can also work after school, on weekends and during school holidays.
By taking on a School-Based trainee, the student can gain credit towards their VCE enter score – up to 10% or 5 points whilst you develop a competent employee to meet your customers' requirements.
